Vinous – 89/100
Medium-bodied and pliant, the 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a noticeable menthol element that almost obscures the red fruit profile, though it seems to ebb away with time. Strong iodine and (again) menthol notes emerge on the palate, and the finish feels a little simplistic for a Grand Cru. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Bright crimson – not too deep. Not quite as oxidised as the Charmes-Chambertin but not the freshest sample. Sinewy and refreshing rather than sweet with masses of fine tannin. This should age well. Savoury and intriguing.
