Vinous – 88/100
The 2019 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru has a strident nose replete with grilled walnuts and a touch of smoke, well-defined with nicely integrated oak and a light cereal-like tincture in the background. It lacks a bit of grace and nuance. Some heat becomes apparent. The palate is well balanced with a honeyed entry, touches of marmalade and orange rind, sour lemon and a dab of ginger. Powerful and unashamedly alcoholic in style, maybe it’s missing some tension toward the finish. I do appreciate the fact that it is almost surfeit with flavor. But will it have longevity? Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2033
Robert Parker – 92
Another high point of the range is the 2019 Meursault Blagny 1er Cru, a medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated wine evocative of pear, crisp stone fruit, bread dough and dried white flowers. Layered and seamless, it’s an elegant, nicely balanced bottling that concludes with a bright, saline finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2039
