Tasting Notes
Robert Parker – 91
“I found the 2014 Numanthia to be quite oaky and a little underwined for the élevage it had. It’s overtly tannic and leaves the mouth and tongue with a sandpaper-like feeling. It finishes dry. Lay down or have with powerful food. It’s high in alcohol and has moderate acidity, which increases the heavy sensation and palate fatigue. For fans of the style. 80,000 bottles produced.”

Vinous – 93
Opaque, bright-rimmed purple. Ripe dark berry and fruitcake scents are lifted by smoky mineral and peppery spice flourishes. Broad, fleshy and sweet, offering intense blackberry preserve, cherry-vanilla and mocha flavors that become livelier with aeration. Shows excellent clarity and strong, dark-fruit-driven persistence on the finish, which is given shape by smooth, even tannins. Fermented in new French oak barrels and then raised in a second set of new barrels, so the proverbial 200% new oak.
