Tasting Notes
Vinous – 90-92
Medium red. Sweet, wild nose offers scents of red licorice, iron, herbs and flowers, plus a faintly vegetal quality that adds interest. Supple, silky and exotic in the mouth, displaying a fine-grained texture to the exuberant flavors of medicinal cherry, iron and smoke. Finishes with ripe tannins and excellent saline persistence. Very Morey.
Robert Parker – 88
The 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes has a slightly conservative bouquet with solid raspberry and strawberry fruit that just need a little more “motion.” The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little foursquare in the mouth, but with an attractive, sustained strawberry and white pepper aftertaste. It just needs to dial up the conviction – the Genavrières seems to have more chutzpah at the moment.
