Tasting Notes
Vinous – 89
(bottled the week before my visit; just two barrels made, vs. a normal six): Moderately saturated medium red. Rather subdued aromas of redcurrant and smoke. More expressive in the mouth than on the nose, displaying good intensity to the red cherry, redcurrant and spice flavors, with surprising acidity framing and lifting the wine. Tannins are firm but not dry on the persistent finish. Incidentally, Vincent aged this wine in two one-year-old barrels and finds it a bit too oaky today.

Robert Parker – 86-88
The 2014 Beaune 1er Cru les Grèves, reduced by two-thirds of the crop, has a rather earthy bouquet, the fruit subdued by the impact of the hail. It just feels a touch out of breath. The palate is actually better with a pleasing sharpness on the entry. The acidic thread drives this along, red merging into blacker fruit towards the finish that is not complex, but at least it feels harmonious. This is a decent effort given the circumstances, although there are better vintages from the domaine.
Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026
