Tasting Notes

JancisRobinson.com – 16.5

Full bottle 1,395 g. 90% Sémillon, 10% Sauvignon Blanc. Five pickings between 22 September all the way to 9 November. Aged for 20 months in barrels (50% new, 50% second use). RS 145 g/l, TA just 3.6 g/l. Deep orangey gold. Attractive crème-caramel nose with a botrytis edge but not that much acidity. It’s going all out for the sweetness and maturity factors. A brûlée edge. Very sweet finish. This is probably going to be very suitable with the remains of Nick’s cream-and-strawberry birthday cake tonight but I certainly wouldn’t sip it en aperitif. And I would drink rather than cellar it. [08/04/2021]

Anticipated maturity: 2016-2024

Robert Parker – 93

Pale to medium lemon-gold colored, the 2010 Suduiraut features quite a savory nose with notes of lightly browned toast, salted almonds, nutmeg and cinnamon over a core of creme caramel, pear tart and peach cobbler. The palate is decadently sweet, concentrated and unctuous with soft acidity and a spicy finish. [Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 03/03/2020]

Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040

Vinous – 96

The 2010 Suduiraut, picked from 22 September until 9 November in five tries through the vineyard, has a drop-dead gorgeous bouquet that is delineated and detailed. There are copious scents of dried honey, apricot, white peach and just a hint of melted candle wax. The palate is very well balanced with great depth. It boasts layers of rich botrytised fruit, you can feel the weight here but not the heaviness thanks to that killer line of acidity. This 2010 has long been one of the finest Sauternes of the vintage and continues to amaze. Fabulous, even if not quite up there with the imperious 2009. 13.8% alcohol, 145gm/L residual sugar. Tasted at the Suduiraut vertical at the château. [Neal Martin, 27/03/2019]

Anticipated maturity: 2020-2065
