Tasting Notes

Vinous – 89

The 2010 Les Carmes Haut-Brion was the first vintage under the new ownership, though they only took charge of the ageing. This has an intense bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow and light menthol aromas, just a little warmth of alcohol coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly minty opening, fleshy tannins, balanced yet quite stocky compared to recent vintages. It is structured with a pleasant sapidity on the finish. It just lacks a bit of persistency on the aftertaste, that said, this might actually benefit from another year in bottle. Tasted at the Les Carmes Haut-Brion vertical at the château. [Neal Martin, 25/10/2022]

Anticipated maturity: 2023-2040

Robert Parker – 93

Made of 45% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet colored 2010 Les Carmes Haut-Brion gives up notes of baked blackberries, blackcurrants, black raspberries and cedar chest with hints of baking spices, black olives, pencil lead and Marmite toast. Full-bodied, the generously fruited palate has a solid backbone of grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting all that tightly-packed brawn, finishing with great length and purity. Still incredibly youthful, I suspect this wine has a lot more to give in the years to come! [Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 18/02/2020]

Anticipated maturity: 2020-2043

JancisRobinson.com – 16.5

Tasted blind. Deep smudgy garnet. Ripe as well as savoury. Open and generous in its mature and spicy fruit. Firm but fine-boned tannins. Fresh, long. Unexpectedly juicy, too. (JH) [12/02/2020]

Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030
