We are delighted to be able to offer you a lovely selection direct from the Domaine's cellar – a fantastic value red Burgundies from an under-the-radar, independent winegrower.

In the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Henri Jouan is unquestionably a jewel. Since 1946, the company has been 100% family-owned and operated, with the 4th generation at the helm with outstanding vineyard holdings in and around Morey-Saint-Denis. If you've ever wondered why you haven't heard of them, here's why: they have a small production (3 hectares of vines), and most of it was sold to negociant Joseph Drouhin until Philippe took control in 2004 and began developing his own label. The total annual production is between 11-14,000 bottles, with a few barrels (about a third of the total) sold to Joseph Drouhin to honor their long-standing connection.

The grapes are almost always thoroughly de-stemmed after harvest, with the help of his wife and full-time staff, before controlled-temperature fermentation and pressed with a 100-year-old wooden press used by Philippe's grandfather. Philippe likes to say that his style hasn't changed in fifty years and that his wines are still made the same way his grandpa did. Philippe's approach to winemaking is straightforward and can be summed up in two words: 'fruit' and 'purity'. "We want our wines to be fruity, round, and approachable in their youth," he used to say to his friends and clients. Philippe upholds excellent standards in all of his appellations and treats his village plots as if they were Grand Crus.
